Paramedical tattooing frequently asked questions (FAQ)

What is a paramedical tattoo? Paramedical tattoos are permanent cosmetic treatments designed to correct skin tone and texture abnormalities or restore a natural look to skin after medical procedures. This includes areola reconstruction, scar camouflage, stretch mark camouflage and more!

What is a camouflage tattoo?
A camouflage tattoo is a paramedical tattoo procedure that focuses on skin tone pigments. This procedure is usually done to cover up skin discoloration such as scars, hypopigmentation, surgical scars, and stretch marks.

What is the difference between a camouflage tattoo and ISR (inkless stretch mark revision)?
Camouflage tattoo and ISR are both types of body modifications that involve changes to the appearance of the skin. However, they are both quite different in terms of how they work and what they achieve. A camouflage tattoo is best used when someone wants to cover up a prominent skin tone contrast, while ISR revision is best used for those looking for a more natural way to treat stretch marks.

When can you camouflage a stretch mark?
You need to wait 12 months before camouflaging any stretch marks. Performing a treatment on stretch marks that aren’t fully developed may affect the result of the camouflage negatively, and may cause more trauma to the skin.

What is NUE SR and how is it different to ISR?
NUE SR is an ISR treatment, however the serum we use is very different from other ISR practitioners. Most ISR practitioners formulate their own serums using OTC (over the counter) products. NUE SR serum uses a medical grade ingredient and is lab-formulated specifically for the ISR technique.

What can I expect immediately after my ISR or scar camouflage appointment?
After your procedure, you’ll notice the area that was treated will be extremely red, swollen, and a bit irritated. This will subside within 24-48 hours, but some redness may remain visible. Eventually the redness will progress into a brownish hue which can take up to 1-3 months before it disappears completely. Other factors such as age, lifestyle, and diet can affect healing times of all procedures as well.

What does my after-care regimen look like?

  • It’s important to avoid sun exposure for at least 30 days after the treatment to give the skin time to heal properly. Once fully healed, it is safe to enjoy the sun again!

  • Excessive seating, sauna/pools/ocean should be avoided for 1 week after treatment to prevent infection.

  • Adherent to the proper post-treatment regime is essential for optimal results and faster healing. Keeping the treated area clean is paramount. This includes washing the treated area 2x a day with antibacterial soap before applying the healing cream

  • The healing process may take anywhere between 1-3 months which is longer than tattooing healthy parts of the skin, due to it being more sensitive when working with scar tissue.

  • Patience and relaxation are key while waiting for complete healing.

What happens when I tan?
When camouflaging stretch marks, it will transform the base of the color of these scars so they blend into the same hue as healthy skin. Therefore, when the sun and UV rays tan the skin, the tattooed area is unaffected and still blends seamlessly!
